Hackney Wicked weekend

So as i am working for Fred on Monday now i get to stay in Dalston for an extra weekend! And as it happens Hackney Wicked is on, which is a 3 day art festival in Hackney. So today we went to take a look. A lot of cool markets and art work. You were able to view people studio spaces to view there work. Some definitely 'art' that was questionable but all in all very interesting. So here are a few pictures and leaflets (a few out of 100's i collected)

This was the festival programme telling us what was on over the 3 days.

A few of many postcards, business cards, leaflets etc i collected.

This was a tiny installation we found on the wall. These little people were only about an inch tall and you could look through the arch way and right at the end you could see a reflection of yourself.

Some cool chalk art work (and me) just outside of Hackney tube station.

Laura Collins

A student on my course Laura Collins asked me if i would model one of her t-shirts for her. These t-shirts were hand made by her all featuring different animals of the world. I choose the elephant to wear. She made her own stencils and spray painted each individual t-shirt.

Here's my picture -

I Heart Btown

Today was 'I heart Btown' the River Island event. It went really well and the weather was so hot! The group that was hosting 'I heart Btown' had got into the final 4 and so this meant that they had to actually do the event and people from River Island had to come down and judge. I offered to help out and was on the Illustrated t-shirt stall. It was a competition of who could design the best t-shirt and the winner was announced at the end of the event and won a £20 voucher for River Island.

Here are some pictures from the day.

Photos of the fabulous public

Still getting some fab photos! People are really loving the cut outs. Here are a few more edited pictures. As you can see there are people of all diferent ages and genders. I really thought because i only did female outfits that i would restrict myself to female customers but everyone has really taken to it. There are families were the little kids are daring the dads to put a dress on and partners saying 'I will do it if you do' which i think is really fun. People think its really fun which i am proud of. I wanted it to be like that and i have managed to achieve it!

SSSset up at Selfridges

Today was the day that i first caught a glimpse of the the Ultralounge. Its amazing! It looks totally fab, such good decorations. 'The Girls' pervious work is all up on the big pink walls which looks really good. They have a big checkered dance floor with gliter balls and hula hoops. Loads of craft tables and little corners full of tacky 80's junk.

I got given my space and started to set up my cutout wardrobe. My rail was already there so i got my cutouts out and tied them up. It looks so good, definitely better than i thought. the colourful ribbons work really well. The rail is also get set a black back ground so it really stands out.

Before i came i hadnt had enough time to stencil on my letters on my back drop. So when i arrived i did it there. Zoe had some pink paint left which was good because its the same pink that they have used to piant props so it will all blend in.
The stencils worked really well and it came out really bold and bright.

My photo wall. I also didnt have a set plan for this and i wanted to see what the space was going to be like and base it around that. Opposite my backdrop is one of the pink wire fences. This was perfect for tying my string on and also i can put the photos on both ways so people can see from either side.

Each peg will have a picture, and hopefully the wall will grow as time goes by!

Overall i am really happy with my space, i was a bit worried about how much space i did have and whether i set back far enough to get the people and the title in, but i brought my slr in and i can. The whole space is general looks fab. So 9:30am tomorrow i shall be hitting Selfridges. Wish me luck!

What i "borrowed"

I found some old (very old) photos of my Mum and Dad from the 1980's. Check out the outfits (and the hair) but i think they look rather stylish.

Both these photos took in 1984. Top picture from left to right Katrina Jarvis (my mum), Marry Jarvis (My Nana), Harry Jarvis (My Gaga)

Top photo is Paul Jarvis (My Dad) and the little baby is my older brother Joe Jarvis.
Bottom photo, which i love the clothes, is my Uncle. Those glasses!

This is my Dad, showing off his lovely range of jumpers (the bottom one which i have now adopted) and his fashional mustache.

This is what a "borrowed" some of which i will definitely be giving back..but some not.

Cut out wardrobe!

I really like the idea of the cut out woredrobe. I was thinking of making lifesize ones and getting people to pick the ones they like and getting their picture taken with them on. Maybe the images can be projected on a wall or put on a website.

These were some old pictures i had from a different project. I photoshopped the dresses and coats from the back on the buntys magazine.

I want to do this idea, need to think about size's of the cut outs and whether to have mens aswell as women. Also how these cut outs will be placed on to the person, held, hung, stuck on etc. also how the pictures will be presented.

Need to talk to zoe about my ideas and whether she likes them and if there even do-able.
Also should i do this aswell as the advertising?

The Girls - New Project

These are two fabulous women who were brought together through university! They love the 1980's and anything broken or tacky. They started out in the art world with self portraits which even won them a few competitions.

Now back in 2010! they will be the artists-in-residence at the one and only selfridges. located in the ultra lounge (lower ground floor) for the whole month of april!

This event is called 'The Paper Eaters' and is all based around the question, 'what's happening to paper?' They will be producing three magazines throughout april, all in the style of old 80's magazines like buntys and programmes like the goonies and press gang.

So they asked us if we would like to contirbute/collaborate with them at 'Paper Eaters' - ideas to come of whatt o do but i am very excited!
